Farm Agronomy Manager

Lanehaven Farms is a progressive seed corn, commercial crop, organic crop and hog farm based in Northeast Iowa. POSITION RESPONSIBILTIES

AGRONOMY MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee seasonal crop planning and operational execution in cooperation with Executive Team and Leadership Team.
  • Oversee crop input purchasing and inventory control. Act as primary point contact for crop input suppliers.
  • Oversee development and execution of seasonal crop research projects.
  • Develop annual croup scouting and agronomy plans for the farm.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise a summer Crop Scouting Intern.
  • Manage manure management plans and associated documentation and compliance with Iowa DNR regulations.
  • Assist with ensuring accurate crop input and grain inventory and operational record keeping.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of crop enterprise productivity and profitability.

ORGANIC CROP ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee seasonal crop planning and operational execution in cooperation with Executive Team and Leadership Team.
  • Primary responsibility for organic certification record keeping and compliance.
  • Assist with marketing of organic grain.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of organic crop enterprise productivity and profitability.

EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT

  • Manage employees to achieve superior production.
  • Administer employee performance appraisals as scheduled.
  • Be responsible for scheduling employee vacations and weekend work schedules.
  • Procure and dismiss labor as needed.

CHEMICAL INVENTORY & MIXING SYSTEM

  • Assist with updating, maintaining, and adhering to a preventive maintenance schedule for the Junge Chemical Mixing System.
  • Assist with ensuring facility and equipment preparedness for fieldwork seasons.
  • Assist with management of inventory and billing for chemical mixing system and spraying operations.

PRECISION AGRICULTURE

  • Assist in management of collection, processing, analysis and archival of precision agricultural data (maps, boundaries, VRT, as applied data, etc.).
  • Assist with field tile system design and installation.
  • Assist with management and analysis of precision ag data and remote sensing imagery.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Perform field work (plant, spray, harvest) and other general farm work, as necessary.
  • Ensure everything has a place and everything is in its place (disciplined and organized) in 5S ownership areas. 
  • Manage special projects as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Agronomy, Ag Business or closely related field.
  • A private pesticide applicators license or the ability to get one.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass vehicle insurance verification.  A commercial driver’s license is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and appreciation for the value of accurate data and reporting.
  • A mindset of curiosity and progressiveness.
  • Experience operating farm equipment beneficial.
